The design of a five-unit apartment building in Prague 6 fills a gap in Wolkerova Street, a site that was previously built up. The building is located in an urban area with diverse surrounding development, and its massing and expression respond to the character of the place. The individual floors are slightly set back so the house does not feel heavy and fits naturally into the street frontage. Emphasis was placed on the symmetry of the front façade, on referencing the historic context, and on ensuring that each apartment has its own outdoor space in the form of a terrace.
The façade is made of light-colored brick, complemented by metal cladding on the recessed upper floor and the garage. The simple volume is balanced by precise detailing and scaled articulation that responds to the surrounding context. The proposal was strongly shaped by constraints—from parking requirements to its location within the protection zone of a heritage conservation area, as well as specific relationships to neighboring plots. The result is contemporary architecture sensitively inserted into a complex setting.
