The Play of Black and White_Jenštejn

phase: chitectural study, interior design documentation, author’s supervision, execution year: 2024 photo/visual: Filip Györe

The client’s brief was to design a complete renovation of a three-story terraced family house in Jenštejn near Prague. The original layout was largely preserved, with only minor adjustments and additions to meet the family’s current needs. The lower part of the house remains dedicated to shared spaces, including the living room, dining area, and kitchen. The layout was slightly modified to create a partially separated dining area at the rear, providing access to the terrace and a connection to the outdoors.

Due to the inadequacy of the original wooden staircase, the design incorporates a prominent steel staircase that winds through all floors, connecting them not only physically but also serving as a striking visual feature. The second floor serves as the private parents’ area, comprising a bedroom, study, and an enlarged bathroom with a bathtub and shower compared to the original layout. The attic houses a children’s room and a large amount of storage space.
